Visit to the eye doctor

NEW VISIT TO THE EYE DOCTOR AS PAINFUL AS EVERY TIME. I will not put pictures with my son's eyes in the process of taking the deep-scan images with the Retcam II. If it were up to me I would never show them to anyone. Ever.

It is a very painful process. In order to take the pictures the doctor gives Gruia eye drops with atropine (I'm not sure of my English here) to widden his pupils. But it takes a while, so one has to wait...and wait...especially in Gruia's case.

Then, because he is so strong, the doctor recommends to be sedated, which we accept eventually with reluctance. We know how dangerous this can be...but the doctor says it is the only option. In order to take the retina pictures the doctor inserts in Gruia's eyes some sort of medical utensil which looks similar to a can opener - to keep the eyebrows wide apart.

The actual procedure is very painful (yes, I know, although the child is sedated), and because it happens while the child is awake - I guess, very frightful. And the child screams with all his lungs like crasy as he tries to escape from the doctor's firm hold, who pins him down on the operation table. As a parent you have to wait outside, probably because you would not stand as an adult watching all this...

It breaks your heart but you endure because you know all this suffering is for the child's sake. His twin brother Vlad is standing next to you. He cries too. A few moments ago he was playing with other children in the waiting room. He knows that his brother is inside...

I am very sorry to tell you about all this ordeal...but it is something we went through every time. Now Gruia is at home with his mom, probably playing. Gruia is such a brave little boy...
